Here are my French Guard Lancers, 1 x FN41 Guard Lancer Trumpeter, 2 x FN40 French Guard Lancer Officer, 2 x FN40 converted to lancers holding lance upright, plus 7 x unidentified lancers with couched lance. I think the unidentified ones might actually be Austrian Uhlans, the bases have been filed smooth so can't see any catalogue numbers. I have pinched an idea from Mark of the Ilkley Old School blog and painted half as Polish Lancers and half as Dutch, I don't believe that's too much of a stretch as I think I read somewhere that they where brigaded together at Waterloo?
Nice! I do have the Red Lancers on my Grand Plan but probably some way off.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was motivated to promote these to the top of the lead pile after seeing a recent ebay auction featuring some Peter Gilder painted HH Guard lancers.
DeleteWas that the painted lot carrying very long steel lances slung upright? If so that's what inspred me to add Red Lancers to my Grand Plan carrying their lances in the same way as a sort of homage to the man.
DeleteCorrect! I didn't bid on that item because if I won they'd have shown up my mediocre painting skills.
DeleteNice work! I like the mixed unit idea as you get the best of both worlds uniform-wise.
ReplyDeleteI love Charles Grant's 1970/71 rules where he bases his cavalry units on the squadron so you can have colourful mixed units, or, as he said, "Mixed as per regiment of course, not per type".
DeleteThey ought to make your Scots Greys hesitate a bit. They look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt, I'll tell Ponsonby to watch his back!
DeleteFantastic header picture, real old school. Merit trees and hedges, Airfix buildings, all beautifully painted. Could be straight out of a featherstone book!
ReplyDeleteThanks, the retro look is exactly what I'm aiming for!
DeleteThe above post was written by me. Not sure why I came out as a Nonny Mouse!
DeleteHi Bob, I have the same problem when I comment using my phone instead of my laptop, the default seems to be anonymous on my phone and I usually forget to change it to something recognisable.
DeleteI see that you found some command figures as well to accompany your lancers. I think the officer and trumpeter are among my favorite HH figures. Do you know if the upright lance figures were converted from the couched lance, or were from the dismountable series? I have thought of trying to raise the lances occasionally, but was never brave enough to try it. Regardless these make for a lovely regiment!
ReplyDeleteHi David, the ones holding lances upright are conversions from FN 40 officer castings, using sewing needles for the lances.
