These are 9 x FN 106 (horse attached) and 3 x FN 311 (dismountable). The FN 106 came with a reasonable paint job which I've tried to replicate on the FN311, not quite my usual painting style but close enough. Next up will be 12 x FN 56, Guard Horse Grenadiers, dimly seen in the background in this photo. Any tips for painting black tack on black horses in a toy soldier style would be much appreciated!
I always mix in other colours (a bit of brown or maroon) on my black horses to add a bit of colour to them (often with a blue undercoat) that way the flat black and grey highlight of the tack stands out and looks less organic. Not sure if this fits the 'toy solder style' criterion.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob, by "toy soldier style" I mean that I paint to what I would have considered a reasonable wargame standard 50 years, ago, basically a white undercoat and block painting with very little in the way of shading, just a bit of black lining to emphasise white on white detail. I do try and make an effort though with bay, chestnut and grey horses, will give your tips a try on my Horse Grenadiers' black steeds!
