The cheesemongers

Here are my British Life Guards, aka "The Cheesemongers".

Apparently they were referred to as "The Cheesemongers" because they were originally formed from Charles II's independently wealthy "gentleman" supporters during his exile, therefore constituting  the most senior regiment of the British army, but in the 1750's they started recruiting from men "in trade", hence the disparaging nickname.

These are BN200, mainly on BNH2 horses, apart from 3 converted from BNH4.

  1. Nice unit, and according to 'The Life of Brian', 'blessed are the cheesemakers', so I guess that extends to cheesemongers as well. It's time you lined up some French infantry for these guys to charge.

    1. Rob, I almost titled this post "Blessed are the cheesemongers", but I thought it might be a bit obscure. Now I realise that 90% of Hinton Hunt fanatics would probably get the reference

  2. Fine looking fellows indeed…
Let’s hope they don’t get a toasting on their first outing…

    All the best. Aly

  3. Being British cheese the French probably won't eat them up! Nice work and an unusual figure find so well done.

  4. I've been trying to add a link to the Youtube video of the Monty Python Cheese shop sketch, but it looks like that isn't allowed any more, so here is the URL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz1JWzyvv8A

  5. "Cheesemongers"?

Well, obviously its not meant to be taken literally. It refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.
