The Brunswick Leib Regiment
When I bought these they were painted with all black uniforms and equipment, which was a bit boring, so I gave them brown packs, grey greatcoat rolls, light coloured haversacks and blue water bottles, with a stylised white horse on the backpack. This was justified by some illustrations in an old Osprey uniform guide and the fact that they are in British service so may have acquired some non-standard kit.
I like them - I like troops with a retrained palette, I know these are a bit sombre but they do have style and add variety. Personally I'm with the Prussians in thinking British uniforms were effeminate with all that lace and flummery.
ReplyDeleteThat should read 'restrained' not 'retrained'.
DeleteYes, a restrained colour scheme is quite refreshing and was certainly low hanging fruit lead-pile wise, on and off the painting desk in a jiffy!
DeleteI find painting black can be a bit tricky but these lads look very fine. I like the horses on the packs, nice touch!
ReplyDeleteThe horses were quite clearly moulded on the castings, so painting them was no great effort.
DeleteThose death's heads, mind...definitely the baddies.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful regiment. Your output is putting me to shame, Dave.
Best regards, WM
Hell's angels , Brunswick chapter. If I tried to do the level of detail you achieve with your painting I'd be completing a unit every 6 months Matt !
DeleteI do admire how focussed you are on getting stuff done. You are a great recruiting sergeant fir your army!!
