A game in progress

Haven't posted in a while, sorry! Here's a picture of a solo game in progress. The French have established a strong point in the village, the British are outnumbered and outgunned, so will have a hard time securing a crossing. There may be reinforcements in a couple of moves, but in the meantime the main British infantry force is diverting to attack the French right and avoid a head-on assault on the enemy artillery. And there is a major cavalry battle going on in the centre, heavies vs lights, lancers vs dragoons, who will prevail? And the poor 45th foot have failed to complete their square before the Cuirassiers charged in.  That could be a disaster! In the meantime the British artillery have finally unlimbered on the top of the hill. Will their firepower be decisive?

  1. An interesting scenario, it's going to be hard for the British by the look of it but you never know! Lovely looking table, looking forward to seeing more.

  2. What's going on? Has the World turned upside down? British in columns and French in squares, who's directing this battle? Ridley Scott? ;o)
Seriously though that's a great looking scrap, please post the outcome.
And, what's the mat you're using, it has a sheen, is it vinyl? Was it a 'find' or is it sold as a wargame mat?

    1. Hi Rob, the mat is indeed vinyl, I bought it on Amazon from a company called Frikigames. I'd been looking for a four foot square mat for a while (that's the size of my table) and eventually found this one. When I tracked the delivery I noticed it came from Vicenza in northern Italy, halfway between Venice and Verona. It bounced around between various Italian / French depots before getting to the UK. It seems odd that they sell mats in imperial sizes, but I'm not complaining.

  3. Oh my but that is a scrum of a match. Nice that they are not standing around in reserve but diving straight into the mix. Should be a fun battle to resolve! I too have a vinyl mat, though only 3' square. They are surprisingly versatile and convenient. Makes for a very nice looking table.
