Decided it was time my growing British and Allied forces had some firm leadership.
The Iron Duke, in his trademark plain dark blue, meets Sir Stapleton Cotton, who clearly has a slightly more elaborate sense of military fashion. These are original HH. Not entirely happy with Wellington's mount, Copenhagen was an ex-racehorse 3/4 thoroughbred and 1/4 arab, the HH horse is a bit chunky for that.
Some nicer horse castings on the following which came to me from ebay ready painted, not sure of the manufacturer. Slightly larger than HH, possibly Lamming?
They depict Wellington in Full Dress uniform seated, with a major general, a guards colonel and an officer of engineers apparently.
Not one but two Duke's! Doubling your chances of victory? They all look very smart.
ReplyDeleteIn the interests of fairness I will have to paint two Napoleons, one proudly riding Marengo, another lying down resting his haemorrhoids.

ReplyDeleteIf the first Duke deploys on the reverse slope, and the second Duke reverses that decision and deploys on the reverse of the reverse slope, you could have a bloody disaster on you hands. I would avoid such a double Duke dilemma. Also, as I recall from my extensive reading on the topic, if they both meet themselves on the battlefield, some wierd time warp rule from science fiction kicks in and the laws of time travel will destroy them both. That just seems much to risky to me. One Duke on the battlefield and one Duke in the box is my policy.
ReplyDeleteActually Wellingtons should always come in pairs unless you want to get caught on the hop....
DeleteLovely work, Dave. I would have said so earlier but I've been out of circulation for a bit.
ReplyDeleteBest regards, WM
Thanks WM, it was fun concentrating on a couple of personality figures rather than trying to finish a whole unit.
DeleteI'm pretty sure that those other figures are from the current Minifigs range.
